Male: Club Valencia advanced to the AFC Cup Play-off Stage after a 3-0 defeat of Thimphu City secured an identical aggregate success at the National Stadium in Male on Tuesday.
Last week’s first-leg stalemate continued throughout a goalless first half, but the 68th minute introduction of substitute Hamdhaan Ibrahim for Mohamed Thashmeen was to pay handsome dividends for Valencia coach Ahmed Mujuthaba.
Ibrahim duly broke the deadlock in the 81st minute, and just four minutes later midfielder Prince Chinonye doubled his side’s advantage. Forward Ahmed Rilwan wrapped up the victory three minutes into extra-time to secure progress to the next stage for the Maldives team.
Valencia will face with either India’s Mohun Bagan or Colombo FC of Sri Lanka in the first leg of their AFC Cup Play-off on February 21 as they vye for a spot in the AFC Cup Group Stage.
