Under a new head coach, table toppers, Thimphu FC’s undefeated streak continues in the on going Thimphu League.
The team registered their fourth win from five games on April 26 by defeating Drukstar FC 4-2 at the Changlimithang Stadium.
Led by the youngest coach in the league, Lobzang Dorji, Thimphu FC have scored 12 goals and conceded only two. With 13 points from five games, the team is currently on the top of the table.
The owner of the club, Yiwang Pindarica, said that the team continues to evolve under a young mentor.
“Our strategy is simple. We have to capitalise on our opponent’s weaknesses and play our best at every match,” said Yiwang Pindarica. “Football is a team game. The coach is making sure that the team is working together. He is also working to develop their talents, singling out individual strengths and focusing on their potential.”
Yiwang Pindarica added that a coach can only help players to a certain level. “At the end of the day, it is the players themselves who will have to perform. We’re happy to have coach Lobzang with the team.”
Thimphu City FC also remains unbeaten in the league. With one game in hand, City is currently in the second position with 10 points. The team has scored 14 goals in four games, the highest in the tournament so far.
With popular names from the national team such as Biren Basnet, Diwash Subba, Karun Gurung, Karma Shedrup Tshering, Lungtok Dawa, Manoj Gurung and Tshering Dorji, City is one of the strongest contenders for the league title this year.
Defending champion FC Terton suffered their second loss of the season. Drukpol defeated FC Terton 2-0 on April 24.
With only four points from four games, pressure is mounting on the champions.
