City back on top

Thimphu City are back on top of the table on goal difference following an empathetic 10-0 win over Gelephu FC at Changlimithang.

Ngawang Dhendup’s boys wasted no time as Dawa Tshering’s corner in the second minute found Karma Shedrup heading the lead. This was quickly doubled when Orgyen scored for the second game in a row. By half time, defending champions were leading 6-0 with one injury scare along the way. Captain Tshering Dorji was forced to be replaced in the 15th minute by Kencho Tobgay who had also been doubtful less than 24 hours ago. Ngawang was understandably anxious about losing his top scorer from last season. “We have to assess his injury. I haven’t heard anything from the physio yet.” he said. The boss hopes that it is just a swelling from the knock and not really an injury. “Even recovering from swellings take time. It is not good especially since we have a match against Paro FC in less than a week.” he continued

The match saw Orgyen Wangchuk being directly involved in six of the goals; two goals and four assists. Karma Shedrup and Kencho Tobgay got a brace each. Nima Tshering was up with a thunderous strike from the right flanks, opening an account of his own for the season. Defender Yeshi Dorji scored his first goal for Thimphu City FC since joining the club from Druk United last year. Karma Sonam scored his third of the season, finding the back of the net from outside the box. And finally with a goal and three assists Dawa Tshering was named the Man of the Match. Sticking to the coach’s approach, according to Dawa, was the key to the team’s success.

Thimphu City FC will host Paro FC on June 8.
