Thimphu City FC return to winning ways as two first half goals against Druk Lhayul prove enough for the boys to take all three points.
Following a disappointing stalemate against Paro FC, Ngawang’s team responded well by wasting no time to take an early lead against Druk Lhayul FC. Dawa Tshering’s efforts in as early as the eighth minute was stopped by fully stretched Dendup. Minutes later, Dawa sent Karma Sonam racing from the right side, who subsequently helped Nima Tshering break the deadlock. In the 38th minute, our number 14 doubled the lead, and it appeared like City would go into the halftime break with a two-goal advantage. Druk Lhayul, though, equalised in stoppage time with a stunning free-kick from the edge of the 18-yard area.
Despite many opportunities, neither team was able to add to the score after the interval. Ngawang Dhendup in particular was not happy with the second half performance of his boys. “Today in the first half we could play as [per] our plan. In the second half our boys panicked a lot. So they made so many miss passes.” Nevertheless, the boss was happy to gather three more points.
With a goal and some stunning moments, Dawa Tshering was picked Man of the Match for the second time this season. Dawa stated that the contest was difficult, as expected.
The win puts Thimphu City back on top of the table, leapfrogging Transport United by a point and having played a game more. City will play Tensung FC next on June 23 at Changlimithang.
