Reds will face a brand-new club featuring well-known players this Saturday following a gruelling draw against Paro FC. Our defender-turned-midfielder, Nima Wangdi, expects the encounter to be one of the toughest.
Druk Lhayul FC has experienced players who know how to win a championship. Our number 15 warned that the encounter is not going to be easy. He told thimcityfc.com “[T]hough the club is new but their players aren’t new for the tournament. [T]hey are equally good as ours.” The champions of Thimphu district league is led by one of the prolific strikers in the country, Dorji. He has scored two of the team four goals so far.
The new team’s quality may be seen in the results they’ve achieved thus far. “So far compare[d] to other new clubs I think they have [been] performing well.” Under one of the most experienced coaches in the country, Sonam Tenzin, Druk Lhayul has won once and drawn once in three games that they have played this season. It is evident that they are a serious contender.
But Nima is also adamant that his team is going to prepare well for the match, both mentally and physically. Come what may, the team is ready to fight “till the end to grab three points in our side.” he said. “We need to learn from our games played so far.”
On being questioned about what went wrong in Paro FC game, Nima said that the team struggled in the final third. “Our build-ups were decent despite their high-press. We created a lot of chances but we could not score.” He stated that regardless of the tough level of the opponents, Thimphu City was able to play its own game. “They played a lot of long balls but we were able to bring it down and play short passes. We did not give up till the end.”
