The Bhutanese champions had a difficult but impressive afternoon at Khuruthang yesterday as they saw off Gomo FC 0-2.
Despite the visitors’ dominance, the deadlock was only broken in the 52nd minute when defender Phuntsho Jigme headed the team’s 50th goal of the season, and his third in three games. His two goals against the two Punakha sides proved to be crucial extending City’s unbeaten streak to 10 games.
Ten minutes later skipper Tshering Dorji doubled the lead and gave a two-goal cushion. He has been involved in 15 of the team’s goals so far, with nine of them of his own.
The scoreboard did not reflect the performance, which included 77 percent ball control and 7/21 shots on target, but the guys were content with three points. The boss maintained that everything went according to plan and that he was pleased with his lads’ performance. Bella, who was chosen man of the match, highlighted that the game was challenging and that the entire squad fought together to win. “We need to win the remaining games. I’m hopeful that we’ll all work hard and produce results.”
Thimphu City continue to be in second place, trailing two points behind league leaders. The team will now face Gelephu FC on August 10.
