On February 23, 2016, Thimphu City FC reaffirmed its commitment to being more than just a football club. While excellence on the pitch remains a priority, the club is equally dedicated to shaping its players into responsible, productive citizens who contribute positively to the nation.
In response to the growing concern over drug and alcohol abuse, especially among youth, the club launched its senior men’s away jersey under the powerful theme: “Say No to Drugs & Alcohol.” This initiative marked a symbolic and practical step toward using football as a platform for social change.
As part of the launch, the club organized an awareness session attended by both senior men’s and women’s teams. Professional counselors—many of whom had overcome addiction themselves—were invited to speak to the players. They shared personal stories, highlighted the dangers of substance abuse, and offered information on available support for those struggling with addiction.
The players described the session as eye-opening and deeply informative. It was not only an educational experience but also a reminder of the role athletes can play as role models in society.
Thimphu City FC invites fans and the broader community to join hands in this mission. Together, through football and unity, we can combat the challenges of drug and alcohol abuse and build a healthier future for our youth.
