2016 Season in Review: A Year in Numbers

As the 2016 Thimphu League comes to a close, Thimphu City FC reflects on one of its most defining seasons yet. With determination, depth, and discipline, the Citizens delivered a campaign filled with standout moments and milestones. Here’s a look at the season — told through the numbers that made it unforgettable.

01 – A Single Defeat, A Historic Title

The Citizens lost just once all season — a 2-0 result against Druk United in the final match. But that lone defeat came only after we had already clinched our first-ever silverware — a historic moment for the club.

05 – Clean Sheets Secured

We registered 5 clean sheets, underscoring the strength and organization of our defense throughout the season.

06 – Goals Scored in Each U17 Match

We did the double over the U17 team, scoring 6 goals in each encounter — an example of our attacking consistency.

07 – Wins in a Row vs Druk Pol

On May 17, we defeated Druk Pol for the 7th consecutive time in the Thimphu League — a club record that stretches back to 2012.

08 – Biren Basnet’s Goal Tally

Biren Basnet led the way in front of goal with 8 strikes, finishing the season as our top scorer.

10 – Big Win Over Tensung FC

A record-breaking 10-0 victory over Tensung FC was our most emphatic result of the season — and the highest goal margin in the league.

11 – Goals Conceded All Season

We let in just 11 goals — the fewest by any team — proving our defensive stability over the course of the league.

12 – Different Goal Scorers

12 players found the back of the net this season, reflecting our attacking depth and team-oriented style of play.

13 – Yellow Cards Received

A total of 13 yellow cards were shown to City players this season. While discipline overall was commendable, we aim to reduce unnecessary cautions going forward.

14 – Unbeaten Run

Following a loss to Druk United last season, we went on a 14-match unbeaten streak, showing remarkable consistency before again falling to the same side in the final round.

19 – Players in the Starting XI

19 different players earned starts during the season — highlighting coach Passang Tshering’s use of the squad and the trust placed in the bench.

44 – Total Goals Scored

The Citizens were a force going forward, netting 44 goals across the season — a result of intelligent buildup, teamwork, and clinical finishing.

101 – Karma Shedrup’s Milestone

Team captain Karma Shedrup Tshering became the first player in club history to make 101 appearances — a symbol of loyalty, leadership, and longevity.

A Season to Remember

Behind every number is a story of sweat, sacrifice, and shared ambition. This season, Thimphu City FC not only secured its first league title but also built the foundation of a team that plays with purpose — both on and off the pitch.

To all our fans, families, players, and supporters: thank you for being part of this historic season. The best is still to come.
