Bhutan Football Federation has decided to cancel the much anticipated JDW Gold Cup, that was scheduled to kick of this February, due to the Covid-19 outbreak in the region. Thimphu City FC welcomes the decision and would like to update our supporters about the progress.
Although no cases have been identified in Phuentsholing, the continuation of the championship may attract crowds from a nearby Indian town, and crowd gathering is what the government does not want as it tries to avoid an outbreak in the country. At club level, steps have been taken to protect the club’s and our employees’ best interests. In line with it all the players and staff stationed in Phuentsholing in preparation of the championship have been evacuated immediately.
Though this is a significant setback in our AFC Cup preparations, the club supports the decision and pledges its full cooperation to the appropriate stakeholders and government. The team will continue training regularly in Thimphu with recommended health protocols in place.
